airship by forkfighter airship by forkfighter
Oh man, finishing this project was uncounteable hours of hard work... I had a picture on my mind with an airship and thought, well, shouldn't be too hard... I know better now :)
But I like it. I think I finally managed to make the different surfaces really look different (metal, wood, stone, glass). After finishing the airship itself, I started creating a background which should kind of put some movement in the picture. To underline this effect I did some lining with my WACOM after having done the digital part of the background. I tried to put an abstract element to it, which - IMHO - did work quite well.

Please take a full view, I created the picture in DinA3...

Hope you like it :)... Enjoy!

in my opinion, the cables holding up the cabin thing and the turbine seem insufficient to support all that mass

nice job on the linework

Definitely right. I didn't know how the sketch would turn out, and it's always easier to make the cables look more thick than to erase the ballpoint-pen on some parts looking too thick. Well, I didn't think of realism creating this, to be honest :)

Thx for commenting :)

I spent whole days on the details. I don't know, sometimes I just want to make my pictures look way more detailed. I just start sketching something with my pencil and while I put some contrasts to it by shading with my ball point-pen I am able to create different looking surfaces and add a lot of creatures and stuff to it. The airship looked quite simple in the beginning, but it turned out to have a much more complex structure.
Nice 2 hear u like it :) Thx a lot for faving!

This is the weirdest and coolest mechanism I've seen and I also love the backround. Keep it up... or else...

I always envy artists that have the patience to go into that kind of detail:phew:

Depends on my mood. Sometimes I want my pictures to be finished in a few minutes, sometimes I just take the time they take to be "really" finished. Somehow 2 different styles developed out of these two methods.

Looks like your work payed off, the surfaces do look distinct and accurate. It's neat how there's so much going on in this one, and the characters are neat, and I think the background works well.

Thanks! I think I could improve the background a bit, but I already spent too many hours on this. I like the whole effect of the picture, that's why I'm not going to change anything about it :)

Yeah, you're right ^^ I spent uncountalbe hours on the drawing, that's why I wanted to finish it as fast as I could. I don't have as much digital practice as well. Thx for the comment!

Thank you! It doesn't happen too often, that I spend such an amount of hours on one piece, but this time I somehow finished it in about one week, because I just couldn't stop drawing :)

Naja. Dann halt nicht :)

this things kicks. I dig the subject against the background. the characters are cool looking and the ship is high detail and dirty (in the good way). nicely done and well worth the time.

Yeah, it was supposed to be a turbine or something like that :)
Hope you see that it's actually connected to the airship itself... It was meant to work like an impulse making it move :P

Thank you! If you full-view it, it looks my better, btw.
